Laura Dudgeon was born in Darwin in 1993. Her country is the Kimberley and she is descended from the Bardi people from north of Broome and the Giga people in the East Kimberley. Laura's stories were inspired by her nana and based in her hometown of Darwin. Lilli's move from a country town to the big city was based on Laura's own experience of moving with her mother from Darwin to the big city lights of Perth. Pat Dudgeon was born in Darwin in 1959 and is descended from the Beniol Bardi people from north of Broome. Pat came to Perth to study psychology and, after graduation, joined the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Curtin University as a lecturer. She later became the head of the centre in 1990. Pat was the Chair of the Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association and is a Doctor of Philosophy. Her thesis was completed in 2008 and is called Mothers of Sin: Indigenous Women's Perceptions of Identity and Sexuality/Gender. She was also an Associate Professor and research fellow at the UWA School of Indigenous Studies, where she researched Aboriginal women and leadership. Sabrina Dudgeon is descended from the Bardi people from north of Broome, and the Giga people in the East Kimberley. Her story was inspired by her Nana and the stories she shared. Darlene Oxenham is a Malgana woman from Shark Bay on the coast of Western Australia. Her story Beach Sports Car was inspired by her time growing up in Useless Loop. Darlene has worked in Higher Education for over twenty years and has been a Professor at the School of Indigenous Studies at The University of Western Australia.
