The Ledge is a propulsive thriller that asks the question: How far would you go to help a friend? Alternating between then and now, it’s the story of four best friends and what happens when one of them goes missing. Unfolding at a breakneck
pace, The Ledge races towards an earth-shattering twist and a climax where nothing is as it seems. Christian always wanted to write a coming-of-age story, a love letter to all the movies and books that shaped him as a teenager: Lord of the Flies, It, Stand by Me and The Goonies. He says, ‘Writing this felt much more personal than writing my other books. The Ledge is about a weird teenager (which I was) and a forty-something author (which I am).’ 

A character-driven thriller, The Ledge explores toxic masculinity, domestic abuse, male puberty and the strange inner dynamics of male friendship groups. As Christian explains, The Ledge is about ‘boys without dads, the double-edged sword that is masculinity, the moral shades of friendship and loyalty, how far you would – and should – go for a friend, and the fact that
time doesn’t necessarily heal all wounds.’
