Poh in conversation

Wednesday 15th November 6.15 for 6.30pm - EVENT SOLD OUT

at Beaufort Street Books

Please join us for CAKE!

Poh will be in conversation Wednesday 15th November 6.15 for 6.30pm.  Tickets are $15 and include wine tasting and CAKE!

'I love baking so much I've been known to park myself in front of the oven to watch a cake cook, like television.'Poh first fell in love with food by learning to bake as a nine year old - she remembers vividly her mum showing her the art of folding flour into her first sponge cake 'just like so' and the skill in lining a tin meticulously. Now, years after Poh's meteoric rise to fame through MasterChef, and hosting her own television shows, Poh's Kitchen and Poh & Co, she returns to her roots, with wooden spoon and mixing bowl in hand. Poh owns and runs Adelaide destination cafe and bakery Jamface, with her bestie, Sarah. She describes the Jamface baking philosophy as the love child between a Parisian patisserie and the Country Women's Association. Here, she shares recipes for 100 of her favourite baked delights. So take the afternoon off, fire up the oven, and join Poh in the meditative process of baking something truly great.

Fiona McInstosh in conversation

Tuesday 28th November 6.15 for 6.30pm

at Beaufort Street Books

Please join us for an in conversation event with Fiona McIntosh to discuss her latest novel The Tea Gardens.

Tickets $8.50 include wine and cheese tasting.

Spirited doctor Isla Fenwick is determined to work at the coalface of medicine in India before committing to life as a dutiful wife. With hopes of making a difference in the world, she sails to Calcutta to set up a midwifery clinic. There she will be forced to question her beliefs, her professionalism and her romantic loyalties.

On a desperate rescue mission to save the one person who needs her the most, she travels into the foothills of the Himalayas to a tea plantation outside Darjeeling. At the roof of the world, where heaven and earth collide, Isla will be asked to pay the ultimate price for her passions.

From England’s seaside town of Brighton to India’s slums of Calcutta and the breathtaking Himalayan mountains, this is a wildly exciting novel of heroism, heartache and healing, by the bestselling author of The Chocolate Tin.

Information about our events

Every month Beaufort Street Books hosts Literary Lounge author evenings.  More often than not, it is one of our fantastic local authors with the format being as 'in conversation' style. Come in and book your place today or register for our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss out.

Apart from in conversation style events, we have also hold the odd cooking demonstrations in store. We have had evenings where we made pizza dough, curries, a thermomix & wholefood demo, and even fusili pasta one night!! We have even held special occasion events fully catered for by the wonderful team at Ryan John Catering with Maggie Beer, Stephanie Alexander, and Bill Granger.  Whilst we love holding these events in-store, sometimes we are just not big enough and we need someowhere bigger. For example

  • Tim Winton, Eyrie held at Perth College, Mt Lawley.
  • Ricky Ponting, At the Close of Play held at Mt. Lawley-Inglewood Cricket Club.
  • Jennifer Saunders, Bonkers: My Life in Laughs held at The Octagon Theatre, UWA.

With so many different types of events, the prices will vary but without fail, always sell through quickly and more often than not, sell out.  We understand that things sometimes come up preventing you from attending after having paid for your ticket.  If you advise us 5 days prior to the event, we can refund your money or transfer it to another event.  However, if within 24hours of the event, we can only refund your money if we have been able to get someone to take your place.  If there are any variations from these, we will advise within the event details in email and on our website.
