Leon Pericles - Retrospective: Just Scratiching the Surface

Author(s): Leon Pericles

Leon Pericles is set to deliver the largest art retrospective in Western Australian history. Immense in scale, the exhibition comprises more than 400 paintings, etchings, collagraphs and sculptures which together reveal the exceptional range and depth of Pericles 50-year career.

Blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, the exhibition captures the unique story-telling ability and satire-laden world of one of the countrys most prolific artists from 1968 to 2018.

This book is a selection of the works for sale. Included in the exhibition will be new paintings and re-releases of some popular editions. Born in Western Australia in 1949 of Greek and Anglo-lrish ancestry, Leon spent his formative years in the outback town of Meekatharra where his father was a hotel licensee. His interest in art began early. Leon is acclaimed nationally and internationally and has held many solo exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas since 1969. His work is held in numerous major public and private collections. His witty and unique views of Australia, combined with his outstanding talent have earned him the reputation of being one of Australia's most prominent artists.
