Description

The book's topics traverse many problem areas in univariate and multivariate data analysis, focussed on current ecological practice. The manner of presentation emphasizes reasoned methodological choices and encourages innovations consistent with the objectives, but mindful of the need to see clearly the regularity conditions which set limits for valid application of statistics in Ecology. The main text is accompanied by external appendices including a technical manual, 47 specialized application programs, and many data files taken from the exercises in the main text. Author description

Orloci is an INTECOL Distinguished Statistical Ecologist. He is external (academician) Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and regular (academician) Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada. He published over 100 papers in scientific journals, numerous monographs and books. His current essays on trajectory analysis, the rules of process governance, and the phylogenetic signal in vegetation transitions have considerable significance for evolutionary ecology and global change science. His present work on energy structures in metacommunities is seminal, pointing to a new direction.
