Starvation in a Land of Plenty by Michael CATHCART

$39.99 AUD

Category: Unmapped

Between 23 April and 28 June 1861, Wills documented the torments and disappointments that led to his and Burke's destruction. Surprising to many, though, Wills was not the second-in-command but, rather, the party's 'surveyor, astronomical and meteorological observer'. His entries would go on to help his torians understand the circumstances that led to the tragic end of the expedition. Today, the diary is held by the National Library of Australia and forms the foundation of Starvation in a Land of Plenty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMVEfmu0yQw "Starvation in a Land of Plenty, beautifully produced and richly illustrated, is a credit to the publisher, the National Library, and a worthy tribute to the author of a remarkable Australian exploration diary." - Robert Willson, The Age. An exploration of visual phenomena, The Naked Eye is a treasure trove of unusual images from across the world, all the more extraordinary for being real, all the more fascinating for existing without computer manipulation. Some images are the works of artists and visionary architects, some showcase incr edible natural phenomena, and others are incredible images snapped by chance at the perfect moment. Among these are an elephant balancing on his trunk, a dancing tree, an office building created to look like a gigantic shopping basket, and a man walking calmly up a palm tree. Alongside these startling images are stories, facts, and hidden histories, written in Saatchi's entertaining pithy style. ...Show more

Warrior Pose by WILLIS BRAD

$17.99 AUD

Available Stock:

Category: Unmapped

From covering the front lines of the Gulf War to investigating Colombian drug lords to living with freedom fighters in the mountains of Afghanistan, war correspondent Brad Willis was accustomed to risk. But when mortal danger came, it was from an unexpected direction. At the pinnacle of his career, a br oken back and failed surgery left Willis permanently disabled and condemned to life in a body brace. Then came a diagnosis of terminal, stage IV throat cancer. At his 50th birthday party, friends gathered around Willis, who was crippled, almost mute, depressed, strung out on narcotic medications, and dying. Halfway through the celebration Willis realized the party's true purpose--his friends were there to say goodbye. Everyone knew Willis was on his way out...everyone except his 2-year-old son, who urged, "Get up, Daddy!" His son's words ringing in his ears, Willis chose to abandon Western medicine and embrace the most esoteric practices of Yoga to heal his body, mind, and soul--ridding himself of cancer and fully restoring his back. As a symbol of his journey, he took the spiritual name Bhava Ram, which stands for "Living from the Heart." Warrior Pose is an adventure chronicling some of the most momentous events of our time through a journalist's eyes, an unforgettable story about the power of love between father and son, and a transformational journey of self-healing, inner peace, and wholeness. ...Show more
